Coopa Roca

Each country has their own people dedicated to a tradition of technique and craftsmanship. Coopa-Roca, a community outreach program in fashion based in Rio Janeiro, Brazil, was founded in 1981 to provide and improve safe working conditions for it’s members who are living in Rocinha, to work from home, and thus be able to contribute to family survival without neglecting their familial duties.Coopa-Roca, which stands for the Handicraft and Sewing Cooperative of Rocinha Ltd, uses traditional Brasilian techniques such as embroidery, crochet, knitting, and patchwork. The cooperative has over 100 talented members, and has gained international reputation for the quality of their work and for being an exemplary socially inclusive project. The cooperative members have colloborated with top designers such as Carlos Miele. These craftswomen will also get their own fashion show called “So Ethic” at the up-coming Paris fashion show.
