Jeff Hastings’ WeSC L.A. Store Installation

without comments

WeSC , has gotten together with, former Pasadena Art Center College of Design student and avid snowboarder, Jeff Hastings and allowed him to create an installation for their LA Robertson store. Hastings has created is an “environmental art installation” which consists of rings of grass comprised of soil, seed, and vermiculite that look like potted donuts. He suggests that having the rings growing in the store “defies the odds of nature.” Kind of like a flower growing through a crack in the sidewalk.

John Varvatos new Store in CBGB

with one comment

Menswear designer John Varvatos
[ video from NYtimes]

Menswear designer John Varvatos describes his new store at 315 Bowery (the old and infamous CBGB ) as a “cultural space” — a generous term for what was once the dirtiest, punkest club in the East Village. Kids looking for where the Ramones played may be surprised by the coats and shoes, but they’ll be somewhat mollified by the pinball machine, the old audio equipment, and the in-store performances. Take a video tour with New York’s Tim Murphy.

Colette is one of the best shops in Paris. Most people can’t make it all the way to France to stop in for a quick spree, but you can check out this video put together by some wonderful Parisians who want you to love the shop just as much as we do. This is the first video so far, more are promised, and their mission is to showcase their favorite finds inside the boutique as well as a glimpse or two of the inner workings of Collette!

Dave’s Quality Meat

with one comment

* In 2002 Kyle Demers opened Dave’s Quality Meat (DQM), and created what he calls a ‘local destination’ for his crew of biker, skater, and straight up lurking dudes. Designed as a butcher shop to give the idea of fresh product, DQM offers hard-to-score Nike kicks and a highly edited-to-taste apparel selection in the Bowery. A visit to Dave’s Quality Meat will have you salivating over seasoned labels like DQM, Huf, Reining Champ, Vans, Reason, Real Mad Hectic, and Plain Gravy.

Amongst the saran wrapped tees and plastic lettuce cooler case, NY kids can find ‘a piece of the lifestyle’. DQM crew has a strict eye for street style and nothing but the choice cuts make it past the counter. Part neighborhood base camp, part museum-quality diorama and a dash of actual retail establishment, the DQM hangout is one of the areas most pertinent trademark’s for street style.

Introducing Cyana Boutique

without comments

The Looks

mens-look.jpg womens-look.jpg

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Cyana Boutique, an online shop from a stylists perspective. Cyana Boutique is made up of hand selected items of our favorite upcoming designers. Everything on the online is available in very limited quantities, if not only one. These items can be from past seasons or upcoming seasons that have not yet hit. Sometimes we get super lucky and we get our hands on one of a kind, never produced samples, those are the best! We all know that the pieces that do not make production are usually the coolest pieces which buyers are not confident enough to push. So here they are for the fashion hunters. Above are 2 looks from Cyana Boutique. “The Looks” is our favorite section and the foundation concept of the online. This is where people are styled in gear available online and shot by our favorite LA paparazzi, Joe. The Photograph is then dissected, highlighting all the pieces of the outfit and making them just a click away from purchasing. Brands available online: Aiaiai, And i, Art Force One, Epic Firm, Kanvis, Nic Nat, NSF, PHCY, Plain Gravy, Posso the Spat, Silver Spoon Attire, Stampd’, Toy Me, Unif, Vintage

Fendi Baguette

Fendi Baguette

(From the pages of Vogue Dec 2007)

The classic ( well, classic because it’s been around for ten years now) Fendi Baguette is now available in white-canvas with a set of 48 Pantone markers and a logo-embossed wooden box to allow the buyer to color and decorate their Fendi anyway they choose.

This package goes for $5,500. The original Fendi Baguette goes for $2,720. So I guess a set of 48 Pantone markers (which can be found for less than $120) and the logo-embossed box ( it’s a box ,c’mon!) jacks the price up $2,780.

Joining the increasingly popular pop-up store frenzy, Silver Spoon Attire has opened their first Silver Spoon Attire shop space in London, in collaboration with their friends Real Gold. This short-lived store will be reminiscent of “that place” in early ’90s movies where all the cool ( and un-cool) kids went to hang out. Silver and Gold and Gold and Silver is at 2 Ganton Street, London until Christmas time.

KAZUO hq Presents Koji Iijima

koji-iijima flier koji Lijima

KAZUO hq, a fashion line representative of global consciousness, presents Koji Lijima’s newest art collection, “Between an Emergency and Daily Life” at the KAZUO hq gallery. Koji Lijima’s art installation and performance attempts to connect western notions like globalization and identity with eastern sentiments such as the traditional basic elements of earth and fire. The artist builds and battles lare metal sculptures of dogs that release flame from their mouths and a giant turtle that shoots egg bombs. When asked to describe his steel boar missile, Koji replied “A wild boar is a stubborn and stiff animal, it never listens to reason. This work is an obvious metaphor that represents Americans political and military facets. The boar, when provoked, charges head first in it’s century old obdurate path.”
The opening party is December 1rst, 2007 from 6pm -10pm.

Louis Vuitton Xmas Window Display

without comments

louisvuitton.jpg louis-vuitton.jpg

Louis Vuitton held a contest a Central St. Martins for 2007 Christmas window display. The winning entry’s designs must feature the product and be compatible to the different store sizes of the LV windows around the world. Marcos Villalba and Christopher Lawson won with their Latitude 48,914/Longituude 02.286. Their idea was inspired by the area around Asnieres, where the original Vuitton workshop is based. The design was a topographical map, made from layers of Balsa wood. Latitude 48,914/Longituude 02.286 will be displayed in Paris, Hong Kong, and New York.

Skull Installations

damien-hirst.jpg

I really enjoy artist Laura Keeble’s sense of humor. On closing night for Damien Hirst exhibit at the White Cube Mason’s yard, his diamond skull For the Love of God was being gingerly put away by gallery staff. Laura Keeble took it upon herself to pay homage to the artist, by recreating his skull and then chucking it in front of the gallery steps.

The Damien Hirst Skull is composed of platinum, diamond, and human teeth. The skull has 8,601 diamonds and 1,106.18 carats. It is the most expensive piece of art ever created, costing $16 to $20 million to make, and $99 million to buy. ( $99 million?!)

A really sweet, charming short filmed in an Argentinian mountainside by Nicolai Fuglsig. It took a week to film, and some sequences had to be re-shot up to 15 times. Going on their campaign, ” Good Things Come To Those Who Wait,” the game of dominoes culminates in 10,000 books flipping open to create a giant pint of Guinness.

My Favorite: The Fendi B. Bag

As much as we want ( some may say need) those shoes or purses, the reality is that for some of us we can’t always have every fashion accessory we may think we need. The clever people at Bag Borrow or Steal found a way to give people the opportunity to own/borrow these items!

The monthly membership can be as low as $5/year and you can pretty much borrow anything for as long as you want. You can also borrow items as a guest, but it’s definitely cheaper to register as a member. Each item is priced differently though. The red vintage Chanel purse shown above can be borrowed at $289/week or $850 a month. Or the Fendi purse ( which I personally love even more in blue patent leather) goes for $80/week or $235/month. Sometimes, if you develop a relationship with your item and just cannot give it up, you have the option of “stealing,” which really means you get to buy it for a negotiated price.

Just read on the Herald Tribune that yesterday, Guess owner Georges Marciano bought an 84.37 carat diamond for approximately $16, 189, 769 million dollars. His purchase was the second most expensive purchase for jewelry at Sotheby’s, falling short of the 1995 $16.5 million for a 100.1 carat diamond. He named his new diamond, “Chloe” after his daughter.

The Crazy Robertson

jermyn.jpg jermyn2.jpg

John Wesley Jermyne

Inspiration comes from all walks of life, and in LA it’s poignant that the newest trend doesn’t stem from a celebrity but from a 56-year-old homeless man. John Wesley Jermyn has been a street nomad for 20 years, and is considered a cultural staple on Robertson Blvd, home to Kitson ala celebrities and paparazzi. This derelict inspiration has created a new clothing line called “The Crazy Robertson.” With all seriousness, we LOVE THIS GUY! His whole look, it just WORKS! But I cant say the same about the new t-shirt line that has used this trademark of LA as a marketing tool more than an inspiration. I was excited to read about it in the Wall Street Journal, but nevertheless disappointed by the execution. All of these t-shirt lines popping up left and right are the reason that LA fashion reputation is hurting. One could take Mr. Jermyn’s image and develop a concept that translates into something far more sophisticated and interesting, but i guess thats not where most Angelenos interests lie.

North Face?!!

northface2.pngnorthface.png

Normally North Face doesn’t really represent the type of fashion we love at Cyana Lab. North Face is known for the durability and warmth of their clothes, but not so much the design. However, when I visited North Face, I was impressed with their new fall collection for men and women. I absolutely love their dark, gun-metal gray colors, and their sleeker, more sophisticated designs. You don’t have to be cold to look dope.

Pomeranc co-owner of Thompson Hotel Group, one of the sexiest collections of Hotels. Scheduled to open this month in LA is Thompson Beverly Hills. The Hotel is to replace what is now the Beverly Pavilion Hotel and bring an whole new vibe. Paper Magazine: 23 Hours to Go

Part 1 & 2
A huge trend has risen lately in fashion; The Pop-Up Store. We have been following some of the freshest brands and Collectives popping-up in NY, LA, and London. what a better thing to do when you are visitng a place but throw together a store/ambiance where you can invite and host the people interested in your work. Paper Magazine hasnow taken it to another level. One hour ago I was at the launching of the 24 hour department store installation by Paper Magazine. what a brilliant idea and execution. I have been keeping an eye on their progress all week. They started setting up Monday to be ready by Tonight. i wanted to get there at exactly 6pm to see what it would be like outside, and as I predicted the line was growing fast and people were inpatient. I ran in to snap some pics and tell you guys all about it right away. the energy was great and the exhibitors were awesome. i cant wait to go back in the middle of the night to see what they are up to. Inside you will find exhibitors including Screaming Mimi’s, Opening Ceremony, Citizen-Citizen and many more.

It was a huge success! We love to see how icons such as Madonna, Lagerfeld, Voctor and Rolf, and now Cavalli are translating their genius into the commercial genius of none other than H&M. Thank god for the fashion FANATICS!

The MOCA Museum had their opening party for © Murakami. Takashi Murakami held a press review and briefly spoke of commerce and the fact that money is important. His ability to take Japanese anime and manga concepts and create pieces of fine art made way for his collaboration with Louis Vuitton. The opening party was packed ( Pharrel Williams and Kanye West were seen heading to the VIP area!) and there was a long line of people waiting to enter the Louis Vuitton store, now open at the MOCA!!! This is the first time Louis Vuitton has done something like this, and it reflects how well-regarded Murakami has become.
