I just discovered a great young artist on the up in the LES of New York. Collaborating with several other gemstones of New York music scene Samuel has created a sound that is totally sweet and addicting. Samuel dropped his single featuring Wade from The Virgins earlier this year and has been working hard to get his whole album together. He writes his music alone and in joint effort with his producers, The Knocks. Check out his myspace to hear his music and check out his upcoming gigs. Student James Houston graduating from the Glasgow School of Art’s visual communication course in a few days did this for his final project and a contest that Radiohead held an online to remix “Nude” from their album – “In Rainbows”.
“Nude” is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that’s played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It’s pretty difficult to seamlessly mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from “Nude” thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.

Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition to find out how people would approach such a challenging task.

Based on the lyric (and alternate title) “Big Ideas: Don’t get any” he grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they’re trying their best to do something that they’re not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

He missed the contest deadline, but its clear after seeing and hearing this that he is no the one missing anything. Utter Brilliance!

You have to check out this super rad video (via Dazed Digital) of French indie-pop-electro group, The Teenagers, being drilled by their teenage myspace fans. OOooolalala Le French accent! They talk about their inspirations in music making and how the American culture is the root of all their subjects. They also mention how Justice has opened the American’s eyes to French pop-electro and made it possible of the teenagers to just make music for fun.

I just wanted to share with you guys the Justice video for the Stress track that popped up yesterday. A raw indication of what are known as the Racaille, in France, directed by Romain Gavras. The Racaille are the French street rats that live in the projects and run around the city causing any ruckus to be had. Im not really sure why Justice had to endorse this idea but I guess our perceptions of violence are getting more and more screwed up.

This Hot Chip video is awesome! The video for “Ready for the Floor”, a single from Hot Chip’s forthcoming Made in the Dark, is all about this duality. But the way they choose to express that is what really caught my attention. women painted in half black half color dancing against a black background makes them appear only half way. So simple, and so brilliant! But I have to say that with so much of my attention on color and color blocking lately the best part for me was when the women are standing on a rotating color wheel of an incredibly selected saturation of colors.

The Billionaire Boys Club opened Tuesday to a warm reception. People waited outside the store to get a sneak peek of the merchandise offered. Though it is closed today for a private party, BBC will open its doors to the public again on Thursday, November 29.

With stores already in Tokyo and Hong Kong, Billion Boys Club/Ice Cream is opening up their third store as a flagship in New York. The store will carry some items that will be exclusive to their NY store, like the baby blue Boardflip sneakers.

We all thought that the Neo Californian Posh or even Donatella Versace will by taking care of the wardrobe for the Spice Girl last tour, but apparently it seems that its Cavalli himself who will design the costumes…

Master in the Art of Glamorous VIP, Roberto Cavalli is really happy to be the one in charge of the re-imaging of the Spice girls. A huge trend has risen lately in fashion; The Pop-Up Store. We have been following some of the freshest brands and Collectives popping-up in NY, LA, and London. what a better thing to do when you are visitng a place but throw together a store/ambiance where you can invite and host the people interested in your work. Paper Magazine hasnow taken it to another level. One hour ago I was at the launching of the 24 hour department store installation by Paper Magazine. what a brilliant idea and execution. I have been keeping an eye on their progress all week. They started setting up Monday to be ready by Tonight. i wanted to get there at exactly 6pm to see what it would be like outside, and as I predicted the line was growing fast and people were inpatient. I ran in to snap some pics and tell you guys all about it right away. the energy was great and the exhibitors were awesome. i cant wait to go back in the middle of the night to see what they are up to. Inside you will find exhibitors including Screaming Mimi’s, Opening Ceremony, Citizen-Citizen and many more.
