Check out Samuel

I just discovered a great young artist on the up in the LES of New York. Collaborating with several other gemstones of New York music scene Samuel has created a sound that is totally sweet and addicting. Samuel dropped his single featuring Wade from The Virgins earlier this year and has been working hard to get his whole album together. He writes his music alone and in joint effort with his producers, The Knocks. Check out his myspace to hear his music and check out his upcoming gigs. I love “I Heart NY”, “Cincinnati”, and “Say Goodbye”.

Chester French

without comments

“When I first heard Chester French, I felt like I had stumbled upon two geniuses,” says Pharrell Williams, who signed the duo to Star Trak / Interscope records in the Spring of 2007. “It’s been a long time since I’ve heard a project teeming with this sort of musicality and originality,” he continues. “You’re going to watch history unfold with these guys. I feel it in my gut.” Read the rest of this entry »

Sam Sparro’s Black and Gold

without comments

This Song is so damn good, it brings me back to the best electro/house from 90’s Europe. Sam Sparrow, born in Australia 23 years ago, lived in LA for years and became an overnight success in the UK. His voice has been compared with Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo and his song looks set to be this year’s Crazy.

Radiohead Contest : Big Ideas (don’t get any)

without comments

This dude is beyond amazing! I want to scream his name 500 times. James Houston James Houston James Houston James Houston James Houston James Houston James Houston James Houston . Student James Houston graduating from the Glasgow School of Art’s visual communication course in a few days did this for his final project and a contest that Radiohead held an online to remix “Nude” from their album – “In Rainbows”.
“Nude” is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that’s played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It’s pretty difficult to seamlessly mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from “Nude” thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.

Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition to find out how people would approach such a challenging task.

Based on the lyric (and alternate title) “Big Ideas: Don’t get any” he grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they’re trying their best to do something that they’re not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

He missed the contest deadline, but its clear after seeing and hearing this that he is no the one missing anything. Utter Brilliance!

Big Ideas (don’t get any) from James Houston on Vimeo.

Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar

Big Upps to my girl Olivia Malone for casting this video and to my baby girl Zina Star for making the cut for Pharrel’s main star! Thats that New York collaboration I like to see. But seriously how many more videos can we make about being coked out! Below is one from the Left coast for Dirt Nasty and the whole Malibu gangsta shit. Like wha! Not really trying to compare N.E.R.D. and Dirt Nasty aka Simon Rex aka No one, but the theme at hand is coked out videos. Lets get on a new theme kids. Push the positivity!!!

The Teenagers vs. Teenagers

without comments

You have to check out this super rad video (via Dazed Digital) of French indie-pop-electro group, The Teenagers, being drilled by their teenage myspace fans. OOooolalala Le French accent! They talk about their inspirations in music making and how the American culture is the root of all their subjects. They also mention how Justice has opened the American’s eyes to French pop-electro and made it possible of the teenagers to just make music for fun.

Justice_Stress Video : directed by Romain Gavras

I just wanted to share with you guys the Justice video for the Stress track that popped up yesterday. A raw indication of what are known as the Racaille, in France, directed by Romain Gavras. The Racaille are the French street rats that live in the projects and run around the city causing any ruckus to be had. Im not really sure why Justice had to endorse this idea but I guess our perceptions of violence are getting more and more screwed up.

Jay-Z launch record Label with Apple !

with 2 comments

jayapple.jpg
This one’s been floating around like a hot air balloon, but we’ve just about confirmed it. For those that don’t know, Jay-Z left Def Jam as President last month, and everyone’s been talking about where he’s heading. While this might be one of his many other venutures, we just heard that Jay-Z is launching a record label with Apple. No, Beyonce will not be formally attached. This is from a high-up person attached to Jay (no, not who you’re thinking), and it’s said to be a go! Jay is supposedly totally into the business model, and really wants this to happen.

Hot Chip’s New Video

without comments

This Hot Chip video is awesome! The video for “Ready for the Floor”, a single from Hot Chip’s forthcoming Made in the Dark, is all about this duality. But the way they choose to express that is what really caught my attention. women painted in half black half color dancing against a black background makes them appear only half way. So simple, and so brilliant! But I have to say that with so much of my attention on color and color blocking lately the best part for me was when the women are standing on a rotating color wheel of an incredibly selected saturation of colors.

Spice Girls Dressed by Cavalli

without comments

We all thought that the Neo Californian Posh or even Donatella Versace will by taking care of the wardrobe for the Spice Girl last tour, but apparently it seems that its Cavalli himself who will design the costumes…

Master in the Art of Glamorous VIP, Roberto Cavalli is really happy to be the one in charge of the re-imaging of the Spice girls. From the five Spice Girls, its Victoria Beckham that has the in with Roberto. She is the one that asked him to design the outfits for the crew.  He has designed a few silver outfits for all of them.

Paper Magazine: 23 Hours to Go

without comments

Part 1 & 2
A huge trend has risen lately in fashion; The Pop-Up Store. We have been following some of the freshest brands and Collectives popping-up in NY, LA, and London. what a better thing to do when you are visitng a place but throw together a store/ambiance where you can invite and host the people interested in your work. Paper Magazine hasnow taken it to another level. One hour ago I was at the launching of the 24 hour department store installation by Paper Magazine. what a brilliant idea and execution. I have been keeping an eye on their progress all week. They started setting up Monday to be ready by Tonight. i wanted to get there at exactly 6pm to see what it would be like outside, and as I predicted the line was growing fast and people were inpatient. I ran in to snap some pics and tell you guys all about it right away. the energy was great and the exhibitors were awesome. i cant wait to go back in the middle of the night to see what they are up to. Inside you will find exhibitors including Screaming Mimi’s, Opening Ceremony, Citizen-Citizen and many more.

Part 3 & 4

If It Was Possible To Love Radiohead Even More

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Radiohead has always done as they please, and their new album, “In Rainbows”, is no exception. I’m sure you fans all know that they have chosen to not sign with an album and to release their album via their webpage, which means to all us lucky fans that we can choose to pay whatever we want per song! We have already downloaded the album and we love it!
For the extremists, you can order their discbox, which contains the cd, 2′ 1/2″ vinyl records, and a second cd which has more new songs along with digital photographs and artwork. It costs about $81 dollars, including shipping.Download this NOW at In Rainbows (Don’t forget to donate please.)
