Fendi Baguette

Fendi Baguette

(From the pages of Vogue Dec 2007)

The classic ( well, classic because it’s been around for ten years now) Fendi Baguette is now available in white-canvas with a set of 48 Pantone markers and a logo-embossed wooden box to allow the buyer to color and decorate their Fendi anyway they choose.

This package goes for $5,500. The original Fendi Baguette goes for $2,720. So I guess a set of 48 Pantone markers (which can be found for less than $120) and the logo-embossed box ( it’s a box ,c’mon!) jacks the price up $2,780.

Joining the increasingly popular pop-up store frenzy, Silver Spoon Attire has opened their first Silver Spoon Attire shop space in London, in collaboration with their friends Real Gold. This short-lived store will be reminiscent of “that place” in early ’90s movies where all the cool ( and un-cool) kids went to hang out. Silver and Gold and Gold and Silver is at 2 Ganton Street, London until Christmas time.

Henk Hofstra Blue Road Henk Hofstra Blue Road
Henk Hofstra created an urban river in Drachten, The Netherlands. His “Blue Road” installation features 1000 meters of a blue painted road and the phrase ” Water is Life” written in eight-meter-high letters across it. The Blue Road is reminscent of the waterway that used to be where the road is now. A memorial to nature, it is an intriguing artistic gesture to reinforce the street as a space and place. Keep checking Google Earth to see if it will show up on the map.
Thanks to Wooster Collective for the photos!

KAZUO hq, a fashion line representative of global consciousness, presents Koji Lijima’s newest art collection, “Between an Emergency and Daily Life” at the KAZUO hq gallery. Koji Lijima’s art installation and performance attempts to connect western notions like globalization and identity with eastern sentiments such as the traditional basic elements of earth and fire. The artist builds and battles lare metal sculptures of dogs that release flame from their mouths and a giant turtle that shoots egg bombs. When asked to describe his steel boar missile, Koji replied “A wild boar is a stubborn and stiff animal, it never listens to reason. This work is an obvious metaphor that represents Americans political and military facets. The boar, when provoked, charges head first in it’s century old obdurate path.”
The opening party is December 1rst, 2007 from 6pm -10pm.

Zevs’ Liquidated Logos

without comments

zevs2.jpg
An anonymous French street artist who was amongst those who pioneered the French street scene, Zevs began his work in the early ’90s as a tagger. By the end of the ’90s, he was most known for his poetic drawings of shadows in Paris, as well as “bombing” models on billboards between the eyes. In 2002, he cut out a model of a Lavazza-poster at Alexanderplatz in Berlin, and above the hole in the poster he wrote : “VISUAL KIDNAPPING-PAY NOW!”His intervention caused a stir amongst art lovers and people in Berlin. (Stealing an image from a poster in Germany is now spoken as visual kidnapping.) Zevs has also been doing what he calls ‘proper graffiti’ for many years, where he writes on dirty walls with a high pressure jet.
Currently, he has his first solo exhibit in London, at the Lazarides gallery called “Liquidated Logos.”

The two aim to bring abstracted natural elemnts into urban spaces, and the designs are all inspired from the natural world and clean lines of mid-century modern architecture. At the top is the Cavalry wallpaper. From afar, it looks very graphic and stylized. However, the pattern seen is actually 2 mirrored horse heads.

Supermodel Alex Wek published her autobiography last week. There is some interesting stuff in there, considering this book isn’t your typical “I’m beautiful, now i’m rich” model autobiography. Wek recounts a painful childhood rooted during a civil war in Sudan, searching the desert with her family for safety, water, and rest. Though some had reservations in her earlier modeling days, she has gone on to becoming one of the most successful models in the industry. She has triumphed over so much more adversity than most of us can imagine that Alex Wek will continue to be an intriguing subject.

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

d2.jpg

Until recently, the world’s most expensive dessert was from Sri Lanka, called the ” Fortress Aquaramine” and cost a mere $14,500. New York City’s Upper East Side restaurant Serendipity 3 can put the fortress to shame. At $25,000 their Frrrozen Haute Chocolate completely clears out any further competition. The dessert consists of 28 different cocoas, and 5 grams of edible 24k gold. It is served in a goblet lined with edible gold and comes with a gold spoon, decked out in white and chocolate covered diamonds and crowned with an 18k gold bracelet with 1 carat diamond. The diner is intended to keep both the spoon and bracelet.

What do you think the tip is on a $25,000 dessert?

Serendipity: the art of finding pleasant things by chance, and it’s ironic that this past Wednesday, inspectors pleasantly found a coackroach, mice, and fly infestation by chance at Serendipity 3.

The Damien Hirst Skull is composed of platinum, diamond, and human teeth. The skull has 8,601 diamonds and 1,106.18 carats. It is the most expensive piece of art ever created, costing $16 to $20 million to make, and $99 million to buy. ( $99 million?!)

Russia Watch on Andrey Bartenev

without comments

Andrey Bartenev ’s installation Connection Lost is a glass tunnel, with fifty LED spheres with the words Connection Lost circling in their orbit. A heart inside each sphere symbolizes the potential frustration in the world of virtual connections. At the same time, the very message about lost connections, continues to multiply and reproduces itself with LED letters and mirrors. On the surface, the stage is captivating. With the lights and music mixed together, there is a sense of false happiness. It is a metaphor for the simulative communities that exist to give to give continued hope to a chance of an encounter.

My Favorite: The Fendi B. Bag

As much as we want ( some may say need) those shoes or purses, the reality is that for some of us we can’t always have every fashion accessory we may think we need. The clever people at Bag Borrow or Steal found a way to give people the opportunity to own/borrow these items!

The monthly membership can be as low as $5/year and you can pretty much borrow anything for as long as you want. You can also borrow items as a guest, but it’s definitely cheaper to register as a member. Each item is priced differently though. The red vintage Chanel purse shown above can be borrowed at $289/week or $850 a month. Or the Fendi purse ( which I personally love even more in blue patent leather) goes for $80/week or $235/month. Sometimes, if you develop a relationship with your item and just cannot give it up, you have the option of “stealing,” which really means you get to buy it for a negotiated price.

His purchase was the second most expensive purchase for jewelry at Sotheby’s, falling short of the 1995 $16.5 million for a 100.1 carat diamond. He named his new diamond, “Chloe” after his daughter.

Marc Jacobs: Love Him or Leave Him

without comments

marc.jpg

At Cyana Lab,we’ll be looking at pics of Marc online and at his last show and we’re thinking ” What happened to Marc?” The change in his physical appearance has left most of us confused. Gone are the days where MJ wore oversized clothes, had long greasy hair, wore big glasses all because he hated how he looked. Nowadays, he’s got a new, hard gym body to showcase his new tan.

Seems he’s pretty aware of the all speculation. After reading the NY Times article, it seems like he doesn’t care what others think. Ultimately what makes him successful is that he’s gonna do what he wants to do. Or it may be because, as confessed by Jacobs,” In the most basic way I can say it,” he said, re-lighting a cigarette, “coming from a psychological place, what I love more than anything is attention. That is about as honest of a statement that I could possibly make. I want a reaction, because I want the attention.”

Michel Gondry Does RAZR 2 Commercial

without comments

Charming, theatrical, eccentric…Michel Gondry’s spot for the RAZR 2 is delightful. Earlier in 2007, Motorola had Gondry create a commercial for the phone. Unfortunately it was never aired (probably because it was too cool). The commercial is still very accessible in a Target commercial type of way, but you can see Gondry’s stylish visionary directive.

I kinda feel like the actress is going to bust out singing Human Behavior.

Maybe you weren’t in LA when the Lichtenberg pop-up store began at New High Mart. The opening party was a success, but more importantly this bold experiment in retail marketing is taking off, especially with the recent Paper Magazine 24 Hour Pop up store.

Reverse Graffiti Artist: Alexandre Orion

without comments

Reverse graffiti artist is an interesting concept, considering that “Graffiti is the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or any form of marking on property. Graffiti is often regarded by others as unsightly damage or unwanted vandalism.” ( Wikipedia) However, Alexandre Orion scours the streets of Sao Paulo in an effort to clean city property. This was a two week project where the artist selectively scrubbed soot from a tunnelto create an image of a cemetary of skulls, which represent his The skulls belong all to us. I wanted to bring a catacomb from the near future to the present, to show people that the tragedy of pollution is happening right now. I try to remind people of things they are trying to forget.”
Though he his “cleaning up,” the police are not the most cooperative and has been held up by gunpoint several times.

“The prophet of Futurism” , as he has been referred to, Thierry Mugler is an instinctive designer who never looks for inspiration. According to Thierry Mugler, “intellect is the servant of the spirit.”

He strongly feels that his clothing is modernistic and not futuristic. Clothes of today should have nothing to do with the past. They should create elegance with simple form and structure and add defined shape to the body, volume, form and simplicity.

Paper Magazine: 23 Hours to Go

without comments

Part 1 & 2
A huge trend has risen lately in fashion; The Pop-Up Store. We have been following some of the freshest brands and Collectives popping-up in NY, LA, and London. what a better thing to do when you are visitng a place but throw together a store/ambiance where you can invite and host the people interested in your work. Paper Magazine hasnow taken it to another level. One hour ago I was at the launching of the 24 hour department store installation by Paper Magazine. what a brilliant idea and execution. I have been keeping an eye on their progress all week. They started setting up Monday to be ready by Tonight. i wanted to get there at exactly 6pm to see what it would be like outside, and as I predicted the line was growing fast and people were inpatient. I ran in to snap some pics and tell you guys all about it right away. the energy was great and the exhibitors were awesome. i cant wait to go back in the middle of the night to see what they are up to. Inside you will find exhibitors including Screaming Mimi’s, Opening Ceremony, Citizen-Citizen and many more.

Part 3 & 4

Roberto Cavalli Collection for H&M Launched Today and Sold Out in One Hour..

without comments

cavalli.jpg

So today was the launch of the Roberto Cavalli Collection for H&M. His 20 Mens looks and 25 womens looks were available at 200 selected H&M stores worldwide. But as predicted it only took one hour for everything to disappear from the floor. People were stripping the mannequins to get their hands on whatever animal print they could get. It was a huge success! We love to see how icons such as Madonna, Lagerfeld, Voctor and Rolf, and now Cavalli are translating their genius into the commercial genius of none other than H&M. Thank god for the fashion FANATICS!

The Next Generation of Legos

without comments

legos.png

Designer Jin Woo Han’s idea was to recreate autonomous interactivity between people and demonstrated this in the form of electric legos. The main circuit board performs two functions – to build upon the notch and to conduct electricity. The possibilities are endless. In this Simpsons’ example done by the artist, Marge and Homer will begin talking to each other. When you add Bart to the mix, he will be recognized and the conversation will change. If there is a t.v. in the setting, the toys will comment on what is showing.

I love the eyes on the Simpson’s lego pieces!

Playboy France Tribute to 1970s Playboy

November 1973 was the launch of Playboy France in honor of the 1970s Playboy style. The ’70s Playmates had more of the all-natural, girl-next-door look and this was their inspiration point for the November 2007 issue with Juliette Binoche, whose photographs have a soft, ethereal approach to them.

The MOCA Museum had their opening party for © Murakami. Takashi Murakami held a press review and briefly spoke of commerce and the fact that money is important. His ability to take Japanese anime and manga concepts and create pieces of fine art made way for his collaboration with Louis Vuitton. The opening party was packed ( Pharrel Williams and Kanye West were seen heading to the VIP area!) and there was a long line of people waiting to enter the Louis Vuitton store, now open at the MOCA!!! This is the first time Louis Vuitton has done something like this, and it reflects how well-regarded Murakami has become.

It’s hard to manifest in my words the power and layers of documentation that Gabriel Mendes achieves in his photos. He has been exploring this concept of street art and street profiles for more than 3 years and his photos feel more and more alive as this project continues to come together. This photograph made me gasp! Brazilian model Raika, styled for this street profile in queens right near PS1 Contemporary Art Musuem is approached by these two archival characters of our time. “Where did they come from” i kept asking, I cant imagine a more perfect visual brew. So fucking rock roll its almost ridiculous. I mean the hair, the vests, the skinny as hell jailbreaker and plaid pants (pants,no, leggings!), the boom box , the arts and crafts Chanel rebel skateboard, the cigarettes and THE FUCKING ATTITUDE! Someone throw me a freakin’ bone here.
