Marc Jacobs Getting Marrried This Weekend?!

leave a comment »

Marc Jacobs might get married this weekend, or at least according to a rumor reported on Fashionista.com. The story is that Jacobs will wed his Brazilian boyfriend, Lorenzo Martone, in Paris — you didn’t expect him to hotfoot it to tacky California, did you? Over in France gays can legally “marry” by signing what’s called a civil solidarity pact. Sounds so simple. God forbid things were so easy over here.

Jacobs and Martone have been together for just about three months, so if this rumor is true, they’d be taking it at a Sarko-Bruni pace. But then again, Jacobs’s romantic exploits have been out of the tabloids for what feels like eternity — so really, he could be nicely settled down under a 7 million thread-count comforter with Martone in France somewhere, in that boring honeymoon phase of ordering Chinese food and watching Les Netflix.

Margiela x Damiani

leave a comment »

Martin Margiela collaborated with legendary Italian jewelers Damiani to create these stunning pieces. I love the idea of taking traditional images of jewelry and playing with size to alter their wearability. The ring shape blown up to a bracelet, or the classic studded earring blown up into a necklace charm. Anything that Margiela touches turn to gold, he can do no bad.

DESERT BOOTS Set The Tone

with 2 comments

Desert Boots are where its at. I have been telling you boys since before Fall 07, and I still am not really seeing too much of that look, or at least done well. You need to get your self a sick pair of desert/work boots and go out into the wilderness to break them in. Don’t even think about coming back to civilization before they look and feel just right. After you have accomplished that part of the mission, find the chicest thing in your wardrobe and combine it with that for the ultimate jaw dropper. But no really, a good pair of desert boots can be worn with almost anything.

Here is Justin assuming his role as the new face of Givenchy “Play” at the presentation of the brand’s new fragrance at Mini Palais on the Champs Elysees, Paris.

Viktor & Rolf Team Up With Diesel Powerhouse!?

leave a comment »

VIKTOR & ROLF has had an injection of Diesel power – fashion heavyweight Renzo Rosso has purchased a majority stake in the cult Dutch fashion label.

The two powerhouses have reportedly been in talks since September 2006, but have been taking things slowly to ensure the deal – of which details have not been disclosed – is right for both parties.

Design duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren have admitted they were impressed by Diesel boss Rosso’s handling of Maison Martin Margiela, a similarily concept-led label, which his Only the Brave holding acquired in 2002.

“It’s a new chapter to start building on the brand and to focus on creativity,” a buoyant Rolf Snoeren tells WWD. “We needed to team up with a strong partner to realize our dreams. It’s like a marriage: You have to be sure you have the right partner. What we like most [about Rosso] is his openness toward creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.”

On the agenda are investments to bolster the duo’s ready-to-wear business, add new lines – including eyewear and jewellery – and open freestanding stores to raise the Viktor & Rolf profile worldwide.

Day 2 on Covertible Shoes : “Goodie 2 Shoes”

with one comment

I found a concept I introduced yesterday that I told you I was very fond of, so I’m running with it. Convertible shoes seem to be an upcoming trend for the future of footwear. Designers are assuming that a new need for multi-functionality is becoming more of a need or desire and these are a few of their reactions to this need. Designer of  Goodie 2 Shoes, Natalie Thorne has created a very futuristic looking shoe that has an adjustable heel. The height transition is made possible by… Read the rest of this entry »

NAT-2 Shoes

German shoe company Nat-2 has internationally patented created a multi-functional shoe, a 2 in 1 concept. The shoe starts as a Converse Chuck Taylor style and zips off into a sandal. The interchangeability of the shoe is endless when put in combination with all the different models. you can simply zip off one section and replace it with one from another model to create a new look each time. I am really into this concept of convertible shoes.

leave a comment »

Designer of Unholy Matrimony, Brett Westfalls was invited by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons to Japan and given his own studio to create 16 full looks for the SS09 Collection which hit the Paris Runway the last week of June. Although the aesthetic of the pieces shown on the runway carried a CDG aura, his work was very distinguishable from the rest of the collection. We could definitely sense his rock n roll/grunge circa 90’s influence that is undeniably present in Brett’s personage.

La Isla Moda, Dubai

leave a comment »

Dubai is no stranger to large displays of wealth and celebrity interest. But now Dubai unveils ISLA MODA, a whole island dedicated to fashion. This is part of a huge development called “The World” namely we can expect this one to be a little different to the one we live in.

It has not yet been announced where in The World the fashion island is located — somewhere near Milan or Paris, we presume. We do know, however, that Isla Moda will be decked out with haute couture boutiques, fashion resorts, a medical facility, and of course luxury residential villas designed by Lagerfeld and decked out with Chanel furnishings.

Isla Moda will be decked out with haute couture boutiques, fashion resorts and luxury residential villas. The villas themselves will be designed by Karl Lagerfeld. The idea is to manufacture an international fashion hot spot that host product launches, fashion shows and other extravagant events.
Lagerfeld exclaims : “Isla Moda has tremendous potential to be the style icon of the future and I intend on driving the island to high style stardom.”

“Abdulrazzak said the reported $80 million (Dh293m) figure for the project cost is “nowhere near the price of the island or the development”. She added that the island price tag falls closer to the $30m to $50m range. She, however, did not disclose the development costs. The exact location of Isla Moda is still under wraps but Abdulrazzak said it is towards the Atlantic Ocean and navigable from all sides.”

TOPSHOP NY NEWS

with one comment

With over 300 stores in the UK and 100 international stores, Topshop is expected to launch their first Flagship store in NY this October, located at Broadway and Broome St. To celebrate the opening of the store Topshop have linked up with the McCarren Pool Parties team for Summer Sunday Pool Parties. Here is a Snipit of Chioma’s, fashion editor of Fader, review on the event. See you guys at the next one.

Poolside
McCarren Park Pool is huge. Freaking massive. Imagine a shallow hole the length of a football field and you might get an idea of just how big. Of course there hasn’t been any water in it for ages now—it opened back in the 1930s, closed in the 1980s and was rediscovered in the 2000s as a fun place to hold parties. Matt of Brooklyn-based duo Matt and Kim (they performed right before the Breeders came on, more about them in a bit) admits he used to sneak into McCarren when it was derelict, and all he found were old mattresses and syringes. It makes sense that cute and gangly skaterkids are the first in the queue for the concert. It left them just enough time to practice zooming around the empty pool before the fans and hula hoopers show up.

Plus skateboards double up as very useful accessory. Melissa from the band Telepathe likes to uses hers as a low bench to get a comfy seat when’s she’s backstage.

- Go to Topshop McCarren Pool Parties website to read her full fashion review and see all the pics. The style is definitely not inspiring. I went thru all the pics and saw nothing new, but the party def seems worth checking out.

Lara Stone : Model of the Year 2008

leave a comment »

Cyana Trendland is confident to name Lara Stone Model of the Year for 2008. I have been noticing Lara everywhere that matters for a year now and I love her more and more each time. There is something very nostalgic to me about her look, its sends me back to the 70’s , and then back to the 90’s and at the same time it is so strong today. Her gap and actually quite a bit about her remind me of Vanessa Paradis and her raw and limitless sensibility with the camera of Kate Moss. Woman on Top

leave a comment »

I just saw possibly one of the sexiest films ever made. There is something about movies that are based around the kitchen like “Chocolate” and the one I speak of now ” Woman on Top”, that are so sensual and irresistible.

Love, sex, and food combine in this sensuous romantic comedy. Isabella (Penelope Cruz) is a master chef who suffers from severe motion sickness, requiring her to be in control of her movements at all times. This need extends to the bedroom, but her husband Tonino (Murilo Benicio), who owns the restaurant where she works, doesn’t like to make love in the fashion suggested by the title. This is hardly the only thing about their relationship that she finds stifling, and when Isabella discovers Tonino in bed with another woman, she leaves for America, where with the help of cross-dressing friend “Monica” (Harold Perrineau Jr.), she becomes a star as the host of a TV cooking show, Passion Foods Live. Woman on Top was the first American film from Venezuelan director Fina Torres.

This film encompasses all of Brazil’s cliche’s in a way that leaves you with a permasmile throughout the entire film. Penelope Cruz is absolutely stunning and the passion between Isabella, her character, and Tonhino is so strong that it send your Pheromones flying in all directions.

Monochrome from Head to Toe for SS09

After reviewing all the mens SS09 fashion shows, there was one reoccurring trend in just about every collection and that was, head to toe monochrome. Alberobello : A Fairy Tale Town

leave a comment »

I have truly found my next vacation destination. I couldn’t think of a more magical and random place to visit to get away from business and daily routine. I think i may have been part of this town in another life.

Alberobello is a town in the province of Bari (BA) in the Italian region of Apulia (Puglia), Italy.
Alberobello is famous for its fairytale like 14. century Trulli huts.

Alberobello is known as the Capital of the Trulli. The trullo is a fascinating architectural feature of this area of Puglia, a building with conical roof made without mortar. Alberobello has special status internationally – designated a UNESCO world heritage site – because its collection of some 1,500 trulli in an urban environment is unique.

Some of the trulli are now used for stores, restaurants, and lodging. But many are still inhabited by locals, who are very friendly to visitors. As a world heritage site, Alberobello is a tourist attraction, but as it is less accessible from the tourist-heavy west coast, it is not overrun by tourists, and most tourists of Alberobello are Italians.
In summer Alberobello plays host to a number of festivals. These include a significant international folk festival, music festivals including classical, jazz and popular music, dance, theater, street theater and childrens events. There are also religious festivals with music performances and firework displays. Most of the performances are free and open-air.

Filson – rugged quality for over 100 years

Born in 1850, C. C. Filson inherited his father’s pioneer spirit and love of the outdoors. After homesteading in Nebraska and roaming the country as a railroad conductor, he moved to the small city of Seattle, Washington in the 1890’s.

Filson’s timing couldn’t have been better. By 1897, the Great Klondike Gold Rush was on, and thousands of fortune hunters were stampeding into Seattle, headed north. Armed with a strong work ethic, a reputation for honesty, and several years’ experience operating a small loggers’ outfitting store, C. C. Filson was ready to stake his claim to fame.

Adriana Degreas is celebrated today as the “Bain Couture designer” from Brazil and is noted for her use of sophisticated cuts and shapes for swim collections adorned with genuine accessories.

You could say that HUFFER is a grandfather brand in Kiwi and Aussie urban, street, surf, skate culture. They have been around for 10 years and have a huge presence in New Zealand and Australian fashion. The success and growth of HUFFER is traveling across the world to use the USA as a new home base for a whole new market. The styling and price point of HUFFER can be compared to WESC and INSIGHT, 2 international brands who have prevailed and dominated this market in the US. HUFFER is expected to hit stores this fall 2008.

This Song is so damn good, it brings me back to the best electro/house from 90’s Europe. Sam Sparrow, born in Australia 23 years ago, lived in LA for years and became an overnight success in the UK. His voice has been compared with Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo and his song looks set to be this year’s Crazy.

Nasty Gal Online Shop

leave a comment »

I love to buy vintage, I love the challenge and glory of going to the dingiest thrift shops and finding those pieces that were left there for me, or someone else I know. Buying vintage online is a totally different experience, that takes away from that joy for me, but if its cute and I love it’s still joy no matter how you break it down. The one major drawback to buying vintage onlien is that all the shops look like crap. I feeel bad promoting sites that make a lot of money and do not address aesthetics.

Nasty Gal is a vintage online shop with a great look. From photographs to interface design, this website works for me. Everything really cool seems to be sold out so my guess is since it just launched she posted the pics of outfits and things from hr own wardrobe and made them unavailable, but hey you gotta start somewhere. Below are a few looks from the site.

Student James Houston graduating from the Glasgow School of Art’s visual communication course in a few days did this for his final project and a contest that Radiohead held an online to remix “Nude” from their album – “In Rainbows”.
“Nude” is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that’s played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It’s pretty difficult to seamlessly mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from “Nude” thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.

Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition to find out how people would approach such a challenging task.

Based on the lyric (and alternate title) “Big Ideas: Don’t get any” he grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they’re trying their best to do something that they’re not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

He missed the contest deadline, but its clear after seeing and hearing this that he is no the one missing anything. Utter Brilliance!

Fashion Illustration Fall 08

with one comment

I have always had a very strong infatuation with fashion illustration. It was the class at Parsons that frustrated me most, because I wanted so bad to express my design aesthetic through illustrations, but the illustrations always fell short of my imagination and style. Another reason it may have been so hard for me while I was in school was because I always sat in between the 2 best illustrators, and almost preferred watching them throw it down on their sketchbooks with so much style and ease than attempting to get where they were. Saint Honoré Wallpapers

leave a comment »

If you are bored of your homes interior, there is no better fix then slapping in a funky wallpaper to spice up your life. check out some of these rad graphics!

The ‘Saint Honoré’ collection of wallpapers is resolutely modern, and is the result of a collaboration between the design firm Ugly Edition and young contemporary artists.

The ‘Contemporary Collection’ reflects a desire to present new graphic designs created exclusively for ‘Saint Honoré’ by Phillipe Rossetti and Simon Pillard, working together under the ‘Munchausen’ name.

Throughout their work, Munchausen touches us with their dreamlike world and their desire for wonderment, as well as by their ability to take age-old symbols towards perversion and slide them delicately into poetic images.

Their ‘Clouds’ motif received a special prize from the jury at the ‘WallpaperLab’ exhibition at the Paris Decorative Arts Museum in November 2006.

Cannes Film Festival Fashion : Great and Not So Great

with one comment

MADONNA

The singer pops into the festival in a fringed, sequined Chanel Haute Couture number and Chopard diamonds for the premiere of I Am Because We Are. Looking as stunning as ever.

GWYNETH PALTROW

The star wears a Grecian-inspired super simple and chic one-shouldered Lanvin dress, bold gladiator sandals and Chopard diamonds for the Chopard Trophy Awards.

MARY J. BLIGE

The singer is a stand out in her red beaded Marchesa gown as she enters the amfAR dinner. Great color choice for her and as always Marchesa making an unmissable entrance.

DIANE KRUGER

The always stylish star is a glamour girl in her ’20s-inspired Chanel Haute Couture beaded gown at the amfAR dinner. This would probably have to be the favorite for me. So classy, elegant, feminine, and easy. A brilliant choice for her.

SHARON STONE

The host of the amfAR gala gets in touch with her wild side – and favorite print! – in a leopard Roberto Cavalli gown. Im glad to see Stone looking as fierce as ever, taking that all over risk and making it look better than anyone could. She seems really into the animal print thing but Id advise her to make her decisions wisely cause we see her in a piece below that does not work at all.

NATALIE PORTMAN

The Cannes juror makes a daring style statement in her white Givenchy Haute Couture dress and Tiffany jewels at the amfAR event. She pulls it off here, the white and choice of silhouette makes her look fresh and stand out in a good way but then she takes it a little too far with her other ensembles. Frou frou everywhere for Portman, i would have like to see her with this challenging look that she did a good job pulling off, but then she had to switch it, to something more tailored and body conscious. Below is Portman in looks not to try at home. (red ensemble Lanvin, electric blue dress by Lanvin)

MADONNA

The Material Girl stays modest in a tie-neck Stella McCartney dress at the amfAR gala, where she auctioned off her own Chanel purse. I love this look for Madonna, so powerful and still super sexy.

Fashion Knowledge : Martin Margiela

with one comment

I came across a really interesting article I archived a few years ago, which was as good as new when I re read it. Art and Culture Magazine has great word clusters with topics of articles to keep you reading for days. Here is a piece on the hidden face of fashion, a timeless figure in fashion, the one and only Marting Margiela.

Martin Margiela has been called the J. D. Salinger of the fashion world, and rightly so — he refuses to be photographed and will only be interviewed by fax. He won’t even put his name on his clothes, branding them instead with a blank label.

Margiela is perhaps the most underexposed designer around. But, in another way, he’s continually overexposed, as his collections routinely reveal the designer’s techniques and interests in their very construction. Bearing visible stitches, exposed hems, tailor’s markings, and external shoulder pads, his collections never fail to both shock and delight. Read the rest of this entry »

Fergadelic x Paul Smith

leave a comment »

“Graphic Equalizer”, Fergadelic’s, has just done another fabulous collaboration with Paul Smith Japan in a stunning line entitled “Robinstein Frankencrusoe”. According to sources, the line is said to be a themed based collection representative of the mythical figure Frankenstein and of Robertson Crusoe. The line is supposed to manifest ideas of “alienated hostility”, “war-like society”, and a hope for a better tomorrow, themes present in both figures Frankenstein and Robertson Crusoe as explained by Paul Smith’s Fergadelic. The line also incorporates elements of surf-style and punk, so it should appeal to quite a voluminous amount of diverse stylistic taste. We are seeing this a lot right now with lines like Maui & Sons relaunching in the US and opening a store, where else but the Venice boardwalk.

The line is currently available at Paul Smith Japanese shops and will be making their way to London shortly.

Awaseba : The Virtual Fitting Room

with one comment

Online shoppers have been waiting for this: a software application that allows users to virtually try-on clothing and accessories on their personal computer. Now Avielon Co. is debuting one, called Awaseba.

The product is being marketed to online retailers, who can then feature the Awaseba service on their sites. A one-year rental fee for the program costs ¥630,000 (about $6,000).

In exchange, the service is free for the online shoppers, who create an account with an email address and password login. First-time users simply upload a photo of themselves onto the Awaseba server that will function as their virtual self inside the virtual fitting room.

It is inevitable that with all the online shopping going on today and the predicted growth of online sales in the future, many softwares/programs will be developed to create a more hands on/ interactive ways to shop. I read about Awaseba via the Killian Nakamura Blog, where I got sometimes to stay in tune with trends in Japan. This program does not sound phenomenal but it will definitely provoke some programmers to creat something even more clever.

His admiration to implement it not only in clothing but as a purpose of life. Having this in mind he is applying the amalgamations of industrial/ nature/ human values/ the space within as the fundamental inspirational engine in order to express his awareness about the modern social environment and in result is using clothing as a medium to communicate with the rest of the humanity.

The Racaille are the French street rats that live in the projects and run around the city causing any ruckus to be had.
